The Beyond Academia: AI & Data Science Applications seminar series at the University of Cambridge explores the transformative role of data and artificial intelligence in the world. Designed for postgraduate researchers, early-career academics, and students, the series bridges the gap between high-level research and real-world deployment. Through invited talks from Leaders and Professionals, the series delivers insights into non-academic career pathways and examines the technical, architectural, and operational challenges and opportunities of implementing AI innovation in organisations. Biography

Vera is an executive transformation leader, AI consultant and coach with an organizational mindset and a can-do approach to delivering positive outcomes on high impact and complex programs. Vera began her career 20 years ago as a technology translator, embedding mathematics, AI, and digital into business across regulated sectors, including finance, environment, pharmaceuticals and public agencies. I then evolved into a transformation leader trusted to communicate with all stakeholders - from UK Government Chief Scientific Advisors (contributing to national digital transformation and government risk initiatives) to CEOs and business leaders in finance, infrastructure, and life sciences.

At AstraZeneca, during the last 5 years, she has developed an extensive cross enterprise network of both leaders and practitioners spanning all business units and lead Data Science Communities of Practice comprising over 5,000 practitioners across the whole AZ enterprise. She's known for designing innovative mechanisms for change, cultivating communities of practice, and sustaining momentum through ambiguity using data informed decisions, clear change narratives, and relationship driven culture change.
