Turing Data Study Group - Modelling AI competency needs in the UK labour market
Closing date

The Alan Turing Institute in collaboration with the Innovate UK BridgeAI Programme (supported by PricewaterhouseCoopers)

Event dates: Monday 26th January - Friday 6th February

Data Study Groups are intensive 'collaborative hackathons' hosted at The Alan Turing Institute, which bring together organisations from industry, government and the third sector, with talented multi-disciplinary researchers from academia (typically PhD students and early career researchers). Organisations act as Data Study Group 'Challenge Owners', providing real-world problems and datasets to be tackled by small groups of highly talented, carefully selected researchers. Researchers brainstorm and engineer data science solutions, presenting their work at the end of the event.

As part of this challenge, we propose to investigate:

  • Can data science and machine learning help us understand the changing needs of business for AI skills, and identify the areas where skilled workers are more sparsely available?
  • What can we identify about emerging trends in the recruitment market that indicate mismatches in supply and demand? What does this information reveal about employer priorities and expectations?
  • By analysing the provision of training and skills programmes, can we identify areas of concern that should be a priority for revision? Do current training pathways fit the identified needs?

Full financial support will be provided to all successful applicants.
