BIDs in the Age of AI

Thu, 20 Nov 2025 9:45 AM - 4:30 PM

Organiser
Isaac Newton Institute (INI), International Centre for Mathematical Sciences (ICMS) and Knowledge Exchange Hub for the Mathematical Sciences (KE Hub)
Location
INI, Seminar Room 1

This event is part of the AI and the Mathematical Sciences initiative, and we hope that those of you who are interested you will join us.

Registration: 9:15-9:45

Workshop theme

We have entered the age of Artificial Intelligance (AI). More generally, Machine Learning (ML) is experiencing explosive growth, including potentially transformative applications to science and mathematics. However, to date AI and ML have been applied little, if at all, to Quantum Field Theory (QFT) with Boundaries, Impurities, and Defects (BIDs).

This event will showcase cutting-edge applications of AI and ML in theoretical and mathematical physics, with an eye towards two questions: what can AI and ML offer in the study of BIDs, and what can BIDs offer to the development of AI and ML?

Speakers:

  • Andrea Ferrari Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron; University of Edinburgh
  • Pellegrino Piantadosi NYU Abu Dhabi
  • Sven Krippendorf University of Cambridge
