The Careers Beyond Academia Seminar Series provides PhD students and Early Career Researchers with realistic, experience-based insights into career pathways outside academia. Through invited talks from professionals working across industry and organisations, the series helps researchers understand how to successfully transition their skills and expertise into impactful roles beyond the university environment. The speakers will discuss their career journey, advice for researchers considering careers beyond academia, skills and competencies valued in industry and organisations, and career opportunities.

Lauren Sager Weinstein, Chief Data Officer, Transport for London
Biography
Lauren Sager Weinstein is TfL's Chief Data Officer, working to bring value from TfL's vast array of data-delivering data prodcuts an services, and helping Londoners journey across our network. Lauren created TfL's data function formally in 2012, having worked in TfL since 2002 in the areas of strategy, business planning, and technology development. As Chief Data Officer, she heads TfL's Data and Analytics department, which is a team of sata scientists, data software develpers and analytics translators who provide data tols for TfL to understand customer travel behaviour, and analytic tools to operate and plan London's transport network. She leads on TfL's development of AI strategy, tooling and capability. Originally from Washington, DC, USA, she has degrees from Princeton University and from the Harvard Kennedy School of Goverment, who awarded Lauren the 2019 Alumni Award for Digital Innovation. Lauren was named the 2017 UK Chief Data Officer of the year by CDO Club, and was honoured to be included in The Female Lead's 20 role models in Data & Technology 2017. She's also made an appearance on the DataIQ100 List for several years.

Everyone is welcome to attend from the University of Cambridge- the seminar is particularly aimed at PhD students and Early Career Researchers. Registration is essential.

- Delegates who have registered to attend but did not turn up to the event on the day, may be charged a conference fee.
