Ryan Moore, Director of Data, The Guardian
Biography
Ryan Moore is the Director of Data at The Guardian, where he leads the central data and enterprise AI functions. With over 20 years of international experience spanning the UK, Japan, and Malaysia, Ryan has established himself as a leading strategist in the industrialisation of AI, specialising in helping legacy organisations transform into modern, data-driven ecosystems.
At the heart of Ryan’s methodology is the Data-to-Value (D2V) framework, a strategic approach designed to deliver "value without compromising on values." By aligning data products with the core mission of one of the world’s most trusted news organisations, he has demonstrated that ethical AI - centered on trust, fairness, privacy, and accountability - is a primary driver of growth.
Recognised as one of DataIQ’s 100 most influential people in Data and AI for 2026, Ryan’s career is defined by a commitment to moving beyond experimentation toward tangible, responsible outcomes. This was evidenced during his tenure as Group Head of Analytics Platform and Engineering at Pets at Home, where he spearheaded the transition to a modern cloud-native data ecosystem. Most notably, he led the delivery of the data elements of the Pets digital transformation programme - a foundational data product that unified fragmented legacy data to provide a holistic view of the business, enabling highly
personalised customer experiences at scale.
A frequent advisor to executive boards, Ryan provides a pragmatic roadmap for navigating the technical and ethical complexities of the AI era, ensuring that innovation remains firmly anchored in organisational purpose.
