The best minds in AI should be curing diseases and feeding continents, not tweaking chatbots.

Amidst the first glimmers of AGI, the world doesn't need more short-form content generators or ad optimisers. It needs people with the ambition to change an entire field.
Pillar VC’s Encode Fellowship gives AI/ML engineers the freedom to build what matters. We're looking for Cohort 2.

Come with an idea, or find one here. We've partnered with the UK's Advanced Research + Invention Agency (ARIA) to support your ambition. View the announcement.

You'll have access to labs, datasets, and domain experts across biomaterials, atmospheric science, neuromorphic computing, protein engineering, robotics, and more. You'll build: tools, systems, and early proof-points for ventures.

Apply by 28th March

What Encode offers:
Salary (£115k), benefits, pension, compute, data, workspace, travel stipend, and access to models and tooling from our partners. We don't take equity.

You'll work alongside people who've scaled real breakthroughs.

Who we’re looking for:
AI/ML researchers, engineers, and hackers. PhDs, postdocs, senior industry researchers who'd rather ship than publish. You'll need to be based in the UK, we support visas.

Timeline:
Applications close 28th March 2026.
Fellows selected in May.
Fellows start in September 2026.

Know someone who should apply? Share our announcement, the application page, forward them this email or connect them with your contact at Pillar. They can also learn more about the programme, and browse our FAQs.

We're looking for collaborators too. If you have a major science challenge, a dataset, or an idea where an Encode Fellow could help, we want to hear from you. Submit your proposal.

More than ever, the actions of a single individual can completely change a field. We want to give these individuals the freedom to build. Together, we'll help define this new era of AI for Science.
