Research Fellow in AI, Climate, and Society
Closing date

Hughes Hall

Hughes Hall and the University of Cambridge’s Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence seek to appoint a research fellow to pursue an independent programme of research on the economic, societal or climate-related implications of new AI data centres worldwide. This is an eighteen-month position, with an ideal start date in March or April 2026, and is funded by a generous donation from a member of the Hughes Hall community.

The scope of potential research topics should be interpreted broadly.  For example, one might work on AI and: digital infrastructure; corporate strategy and investment; climate science; climate risk modelling; green finance; critical infrastructure; carbon markets; the future of insurance practices; and/or sustainability and value chain management. These are merely a few illustrative examples.

The core obligation of the postholder is to propose, plan and manage a high-quality program of original research; publicise the outcomes of that research through presentations and publications; and engage in the academic life of Hughes Hall and the Centre for the Future of Intelligence.  The postholder will be required to reside in or nearby Cambridge.
