Biography

Dr Julian Huppert is an academic and politician. After an academic career in Cambridge in genomics and biophysics, he served as the Member of Parliament for Cambridge 2010-15, and was particularly noted for his work on technology policy, civil liberties, international development, and the environment. He is now Director of the Intellectual Forum at Jesus College, Cambridge, an interdisciplinary centre aimed to foster thinking and discussion about many of the big issues of our time. He is also Deputy Chair of the NHS Cambridgeshire and Peterborough CCG, and was Chair of the Independent Review Panel for DeepMind Health. He is a member of the Home Office's Biometrics and Forensics Ethics Group, advising on issues such as facial recognition and big data.
