Research Associate in Natural Language Processing (Fixed Term)

Applications are invited for a 12 month Research Associate post on a project that focuses on taxonomy learning. The project is funded by Innovate UK and will demonstrate how automated taxonomy learning can be used to support text analytics for Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) investment.

The project will develop new state-of-the-art Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Machine Learning (ML) techniques, especially on those based on deep neural networks, that can fully automate or semi-automate taxonomy construction in financial and business domains. The resulting methodology will be applied and evaluated on the ESG data jointly with an industrial project partner.

Responsibilities of the successful candidate include research into novel techniques for taxonomy learning. The post holder will also take part in performance evaluation in terms of practical applications, and dissemination of research findings.

The successful candidate must have completed their PhD in NLP before starting their appointment. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an excellent track record of independent research and strong publications. Essential skills include: excellent programming skills, statistical NLP and machine learning techniques, as well as proven collaborative/communication/networking skills.
